Lord, How Often Shall My Brother Sin Against Me, And I Forgive Him?
“Then came Peter came up and said to him, ‘Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.’” Matthew 18:21-22
Our hearts can act swiftly to dismiss those who sin against us, yet we are commanded to forgive “until seventy times seven” – to forgive continuously, endlessly, limitlessly.
It may not be well with our souls because we are hurt and wounded in spirit, but it is The Way of our Savior.
Father, how often do we ask for your forgiveness, contrite of heart, and humbled of soul? Daily? Hourly? Continuously.
May we offer those who sin against us our forgiveness, as you forgive us.
Forgive us, O Lord! Direct our spirit ever to your ways and not our own.
All is well. Alleluia!
