For If Ye Forgive Men Their Trespasses, Your Heavenly Father Will Also Forgive You
“For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” Matthew 6:14-15
Jesus offers us wisdom and knowledge in his word: forgive to be forgiven.
He does not mention forgetting, or uniting with the one who has wronged us, nor does he consider our feelings about forgivingness.
If we cannot fathom forgiving, simply say these words with boldness, knowing you have come to the God’s throne, faithful in the instruction of Jesus: I forgive them.
Let us trust Jesus to move the mountains of our injury.
Lord, we pray for the needs of those who have caused us pain.
Lord, we act in faith, through your holy teaching.
Lord, may we leave our reluctance at your throne; we trust in your power to move hearts.
We forgive to be forgiven. Amen.
All is well. Alleluia!
