How Many Times Must We Forgive Our Brother’s Sin Against Us?
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?” Matthew 18:21
Jesus answered Peter, “I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.”
Our hearts can act swiftly to dismiss those who sin against us, yet we are commanded to forgive “until seventy times seven” – to forgive continuously.
It may not be well with our souls because we are hurt and wounded in spirit, but it is The Way of our Savior.
Father, how often do we ask for your forgiveness, contrite of heart, and humbled of soul? Daily? Hourly? Continuously.
May we offer those who sin against us our forgiveness, as you forgive us.
Forgive us, O Lord! Direct our spirit ever to your ways and not our own.
All is well. Alleluia!
