My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?
“And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” Mark 15:34
Jesus, beaten and physically broken, cries out to God, as we all have in confusion, pain, and desperation.
Where are you, Lord?!
Why have you abandoned me?!
He had run the race. He was fulfilling God’s will. He remained faithful, yet the weight of all sin, of our failings and willful disobedience, the crushing pain and suffering, overtook Jesus. And he cried out to his Father.
Father, where are you? I need you!
Holy Lord, in our moments of pain and desperation and feelings of abandonment, grant us wisdom and understanding that you are always indwelling within us (Romans 8:9) as you were with Jesus, that you will never forsake us, and that we have victory through Christ’s faithfulness.
Go forward this day in victory.
All is well. Alleluia!
