A year ago-ish, my Blackberry started to fizzle. I loved that phone, yet was no longer in contract at Sprint and thought I’d look around to see what I could find out about saving me some dough.

Shrinking Payments…that’s what the plan is called. I noticed I said I started with $60 plus tax, when in reality I started with $55 plus tax. I was paying about $60 total for the first six months.

Let’s break down the math.

Year One savings:

Sprint @$120 x 12 months = $1440

Boost @ $60 x six months, then $55 for the next six months = $690

Total savings first year: $750 – $120 cost of phone = $630!

Year Two Savings:

Sprint @$120 x 12 months = $1440

Boost @$50 for six months, then $45 for the last six months = $570

Total savings for Year Two = $870!

In the first two years, what a typical contract runs, I will save a whopping $1500!

When I’m right, I am right.  And today, I have a giant case of the rights.

I wrote The Texting While Driving Lie (over at that other site!) yesterday.  I’ll give you a minute to go on over there and take a look.  Don’t worry, it’s short and to the point.

Back?  Alrighty.  Today was a run day.  I’m tired, cranky and now ranty because of what I witnessed.

I’m always careful when I run on the streets because drivers are known not to pay attention. You’ve read about my numerous near misses.  You know I beg y’all to be careful out there, drivers and runners/walkers alike.

Today, I was especially careful because I’m battling fatigue.  When I’m extremely tired and run down, I become stupid. It’s well-documented phenomenon with my loved ones. It’s funny as hell, but also puts me at a higher risk for stuff like running into walls and forgetting Husband’s name.

Out I went.  I’m running; I’m being careful.  I’m having a good start; I’m loving the morning. Until…

A car headed my way was veering towards the curb, towards me. I made myself more visible by waving.  Nope.  Still veering.  I saw the passenger side window was down and there’s someone sitting there.  I hollered a head’s up.  Still veering.

Just as I was about to jump into the field, the young woman (both appeared in their 20s), WHO WAS TEXTING, corrected the car’s course.  The passenger, who was talking on her phone, waved a weak sauce “sorry!” as they passed.

The worst part?  The part that makes me want to pull some stupid girl hair?

There was a baby in the backseat.  A baby.

It’s bad enough that they were headed to take me out.  It’s bad enough that they didn’t value their own lives.  It’s unconscionable that they put a baby at risk.

Yes, I know.  Folks think they are the exception to the texting while driving rule.  For me, the denial is no different than the defiant alcoholic who can’t see, who refuses to see, that they are just like those folks in AA.

You don’t mind putting yourself at risk?  Fine.  What about everyone else that you are putting at risk?  Are you willing to live with the consequences if your luck runs out just one time?

Don’t lie to yourself or anyone else.  Don’t text and drive.

Love is such a gift.  Husband makes me strong where I am weak.  He gives me counsel when I wish to rush in. He honors my pain and happiness.  He encourages, shows up, pushes, listens (oh, how many words he has heard!), laughs, advises, lets me bogart his stuff, understands…he loves me.

I pray we have many many many more years together.

Things That Happened on My Morning Run

* “Looking good, darlin’.”  This from a curmudgeonly neighbor who used to warn me that my running would kill me…and he meant it.  He advised he didn’t want to find me in the street by his house.  This is a huge win.

* The famous neighborhood trash guys pulling their giant trash truck into the oncoming lane, stopping traffic, so I could pass safely.  I waved my “Sorry about that!” to the trucks that passed me after the trash dudes were certain no one would run me over.  I. Love. Those. Guys.

* An older gentleman slowing his car as he passed to give me a thumbs up.  I’ll take that finger, sir!

* City workers replacing a stop sign that got wiped out from last week’s rain incident.  I couldn’t hear what they were saying, but watched as they shook their heads and laughed.  They must have been thinking what I was thinking about the dude who plowed that sign over: LEARN TO DRIVE!

* A young gal texting while driving, causing me to jump into a field.  She never saw me, even as I yelled at her to PUT DOWN YOUR PHONE AND DRIVE, MISSY!  Sheesh.

* The workers next door laying sod.  When they saw me coming down the street, they stopped working to watch.  Dudes be desperate cause I look a fright after I run.  You’ve seen the videos.  Can I get an AMEN!

* Dexter laying by the window watching and awaiting my return.  It’s one of my favorite things I see on my runs.

Another fun fact about these two: I met both of these girls through the evil Internets, the same evil Internets I used to warm Boy about (when he was a budding adolescent) until I was all, “Hey! I met some people that I’m gonna go have Trash Can Nachos with!  I hope I don’t die!!”
